Junglebook Temple Firepit
Inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s beloved jungle adventure tale “The Jungle Book”, the Jungle Book Temple was commissioned as a celebration space and firepit gathering area for guests of a jungle retreat center nestled in the high Amazon rainforest of Peru.
Designed to seem as if it has stood for centuries, the temple evokes a sense of discovering a lost jungle civilization. With its aged stone floors, sculpted Ganesha wall reliefs, and weathered columns, the temple appears perfectly at home amidst the lush greenery and ancient trees as if guests have stumbled upon a magical, hidden world.
To bring the story to life, whimsy figures from Kipling’s fantastical tale were artfully positioned throughout the space. Baloo, the carefree music loving bear lies belly up playing a harmonica while Bagheera, the black panther and protector of Mowgli, plays bagpipes made from the defeated tiger Sher Khan’s skin.
Kaa, the wise old python, is coiled in the center of the temple, enveloping the firepit as if guarding the space, looking at you with his mesmerizing hypnotic eyes over the fire. Mowgli, part of the jungle music band, sings on top of a column as monkeys and orangutans play an array of musical instruments such as harps, conga drums, tambourines, guitars, violins and keyboards filling the atmosphere with their crazy hip hop.
The ruined temple provides seating for up to 30 people and the firepit doubles as a barbeque with a stainless steel grill. With its magical details, The Jungle Book Temple invites guests to feel as if they have stepped into the memorable story itself. Hosting celebrations in the temple are as extraordinary as Kipling’s story!
